SOFIA COPPOLA, GUEST OF HONOUR

A unique filmmaker with essential vision, Sofia Coppola will be the guest of the Biarritz Film Festival – NOUVELLES VAGUES and will introduce THE VIRGIN SUICIDES to the public, 25 years after its release.

A declaration of love to teenage years that moved and impressed an entire generation, this cult movie was a hit upon its release, establishing Sofia Coppola as a major figure in contemporary cinema.

A Q & A with Sofia Coppola will take place immediately after the screening of the film, on Wednesday, June 25 at Le Royal cinema.

Sofia Coppola has made eight films including “The Virgin Suicides” (1999), “Lost in Translation” (2003) for which she won an Academy Award for Best Screenplay, “Marie-Antoinette” (2006), “Somewhere” (2010), “The Bling Ring” (2013), “The Beguiled” (2017) whereby she made history as only the second woman to win the Best Director prize at the Cannes Film Festival, “On The Rocks” (2020), and “Priscilla” (2023) which won Cailee Spaeny the best actress prize at the Venice Film Festival. She is also the executive producer of “Fairyland” directed by Andrew Durham, based on the book by Alysia Abbot and screened during the 1st edition of the Biarritz Film Festival - NOUVELLES VAGUES.

In addition to her film career, Sofia directed a production of Verdi’s classic, “La Traviata” at the Rome Opera House.

In 2023, Mack Books released her book SOFIA COPPOLA ARCHIVE, currently in its fifth reprinting. Her new imprint for Mack is Important Flowers.
