Richard Linklater, an independent American filmmaker based in Austin, surprises and delights with his prolific output – shifting effortlessly between experimental cinema (Slacker, Waking Life) and more mainstream fare, like the Before trilogy with Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy, School of Rock with Jack Black, or the multi-award-winning Boyhood. His 23rd film, Nouvelle Vague, competed in the official selection at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival.

Richard Linklater (born 1960) is an American director, screenwriter, and producer.
He gained recognition with his Before trilogy (Before Sunrise, Before Sunset, Before Midnight) and has directed 23 films, including Slacker (1991), A Scanner Darkly (2006), Boyhood (2014 winner of the BAFTA and Golden Globe for Best Director), and Nouvelle Vague, which was selected for the official competition at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival.
