Belle lives with her father, a merchant on the brink of ruin, and her vain and ridiculous sisters who take advantage of her. One day, upon returning from a trip, her father picks a rose for her from the Beast’s garden. Sentenced to death for this act, the Beast agrees to spare his life only on the condition that one of his daughters take his place. Belle sacrifices herself to save her father and agrees to live in the monster’scastle. Against all odds, the Beast turns out not to be so cruel, and a friendship begins to blossom between them…

Poet, novelist, illustrator, painter, playwright, but also film director, screenwriter, and publisher… Jean Cocteau was a protean artist who explored every shore of creative expression. He embodied the idea of a total work of art, rooted in a vibrant and fertile century. Born in 1889 into a wealthy bourgeois family with a taste for the arts, he died in 1963.
